I was putting my four year old son to bed last night and his favorite book right now is “Flotsam“, a Caldecott Award winner where a boy finds an underwater camera washed up on the beach with film still in it. When he processes the film the pictures are unbelievable. So, after we read the book my son Luke says,” Mommy, what’s film?” Whoa. That shocked me but it really shouldn’t have. We’ve been digital since before he was born and gave him a digital camera for Christmas. I was trying to explain how the image goes onto the film and then you have to do quite a few things to it before you see your picture. He says, ” huh … on my camera the picture just comes up on that rectangle on the back.”
