When people ask me to name My Favorite Location for photo sessions, I say, “Ummmm, Italy”? Just kidding. I’ve never even BEEN to Italy but my favorite spot is often someplace I’ve never photographed before; it stirs the creative juices.
A couple years ago I photographed my nephew’s wedding in Wisconsin during peak fall color and thought I’d died and gone to heaven. (In more ways than one but that’s a WHOLE other story! IYKYK).
When clients suggest a unique spot for their photo session, I couldn’t be happier! Start with thinking about your own home or a favorite family spot. Don’t worry if your house hasn’t been featured in Colorado Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, I’m only looking for nice light or unique features, either indoors or outdoors.
If nothing comes to mind, that’s okay. I have lots of tried and true recommendations. I can send you my pinterest board with My Favorite Location samples to help you choose. Here are a few from that list for inspiration…
Red Rocks
Iconic and great in all seasons…. It’s also a little tricky to schedule around their very busy concert calendar. Red Rocks typically has a show every night in the summer/fall and the park closes mid afternoon to the general public. Sometimes there are also morning events happening but if you find a day free of all that, it’s a dream!
Your Favorite Park
From Wash Park to a neighborhood pocket park, there is nothing quite like strolling around big areas of green looking for tall trees, native grasses, rocks, water and off the beaten path spots with beautiful light. There simply isn’t a park I would say “no” to. FYI – State parks require an extra permit and photography fee; however, I do hold annual permits for Boulder County Open Space and Jefferson County Open Space Parks.
Olde Town Arvada
You KNEW this would be on this list! This is right here in my neighborhood and I know it like the back of my hand. Olde Town has a small town Americana vibe with pockets of natural spaces, too. It’s great for headshots, seniors, families and children. Highly recommend!
